GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM, model years 2015–2025. 68% name the structure. Newest on file: September 1, 2026.
What owners said failed
In plain terms: Of the 203 complaints owners filed about the GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM, the part named most is the structure — 68% of them. No other RV model has more on file. These are the parts owners picked when filing, not a diagnosis of what broke. A complaint can name more than one part, so the shares add up to more than 100%.

Informational only, not professional advice. A complaint count is not a safety rating, and complaints are owners’ reports that NHTSA has not verified.
By model year
In plain terms: Owners named the 2021 GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM in 56 complaints, more than any other model year. An older model year has had longer on the road to collect reports, and a year that sold well collects more than a year that sold badly. So this shows which years owners reported. It cannot show which year was built worse.
| Model year | Complaints | Share of the model’s complaints |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 5 | |
| 2016 | 10 | |
| 2017 | 13 | |
| 2018 | 7 | |
| 2019 | 14 | |
| 2020 | 28 | |
| 2021 | 56 | |
| 2022 | 33 | |
| 2023 | 24 | |
| 2024 | 11 | |
| 2025 | 2 |
Fire, crash and injury reports
Of the 203 complaints on file, 2 report a fire, 2 a crash, and 0 at least one person injured or killed. These are the owner’s own answers on the complaint form, not NHTSA findings, and one complaint can report more than one. Read the complaints themselves at nhtsa.gov/recalls — search the year, make and model, then open Complaints.
Methodology
Source and scope. NHTSA’s consumer complaint flat files, pulled September 19, 2026. This page counts every complaint NHTSA received from January 1, 2016 onward that names Grand Design RV, LLC as the manufacturer and “MOMENTUM” as the model, across every floorplan and model year. The model ranking carries the full rules for how RV makers are identified and how one model is defined.
Part named. When filing, an owner picks one or more components from NHTSA’s list. We keep the top-level component, so “Structure: body” and “Structure: frame and members” both count as Structure, and give each complaint one vote per component. “Unknown or other” is NHTSA’s own catch-all, not a part; it is shown when owners picked it but never treated as the part named most.
Model year. The model year the owner entered, which is the RV’s year, not the year the complaint was filed. Complaints that name no model year are counted in the total but not in the year table.
Why this model has a page. Models with at least 25 complaints get one — 47 of the 121 models in the ranking. Below that, a part breakdown split several ways is a handful of owners and reads as precision that is not there.
What this page cannot tell you
- Not adjusted for sales. No public source reports how many of each RV model were built, so complaints per RV cannot be calculated. A popular model ranks high because it is popular.
- One name, many RVs. This covers every floorplan and length sold under the name, over model years 2015–2025. A 30-foot fifth wheel and a 22-foot travel trailer can share a nameplate and share this page.
- Unverified, and self-selected. Anyone can file a complaint and NHTSA publishes it without confirming it. The model, the part, and the fire and crash answers are all as the owner typed them. Most owners never file at all.
- Filed against the RV, whatever failed. A complaint about the chassis, the tires or an appliance is filed under the RV model even though another company built the part.
- A snapshot, not a live feed. NHTSA updates the complaint file daily; this snapshot was pulled September 19, 2026.

Frequently asked questions
How many complaints does the GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM have?
NHTSA has 203 owner safety complaints on file about the GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM, filed between 2016 and September 16, 2026. No other RV model has more on file. That is a raw count across every floorplan and model year sold under the name — it is not adjusted for how many were built, because no one publishes that figure.
What goes wrong most on the GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM?
The part owners name most is the structure: 138 of the 203 complaints name it, 68%. Next is the unknown or other at 43%, then the suspension at 26%. The owner picks the part from NHTSA's list when filing and can name more than one, so the shares add to more than 100%.
Which GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM model year has the most complaints?
The 2021, with 56 complaints of the 203 on file. Read that carefully: an older model year has had more years on the road to collect reports, and a year that sold more units collects more than a year that sold few. A high count is a reason to ask what owners reported, not proof that one year was built worse.
Should I avoid buying a GRAND DESIGN MOMENTUM?
This page cannot answer that, and anyone who says the count alone does is guessing. Complaints are unverified owner reports, popular models collect more of them, and nothing here is adjusted for how many were sold. What the page is good for is knowing what to inspect: take the parts owners name most, have those checked on the specific RV you are looking at, and ask the seller for its repair history. Then check the same make, model and year for open recalls with the RV recall lookup.
